I love Chinatown…the only place that you can find light-up breasts that are actually a clever little lighter, and ceramic frogs, so life-like and loveable, they suffer (above) from too much love. This was also where I went on the hunt for my mojo.
I’ve been hearing earfuls of ya-da-ya-da-economy, that I needed to clear my brain and feel like I had escaped the pressures of city life by traveling to a different country. Oddly enough, $50 doesn’t get you very far….mainly, a roundtrip subway trip to Canal/Lafayette, a dirt-cheap foot massage, and a few Chinese herbs for your ailing disposition.
On that topic, the below is a lotus-flower that blooms in your teacup and tastes of jasmine and green tea. Expensive shoppes sell it for much more, but on 500 Canal is Chinese grocery New Kam Man , where you can buy loose hand-wrapped balls for pocket change and create a mini-garden in your tea….half the fun is watching it bloom right before your eyes!
Prickly-flesh fruit with a heart of a sunflower being sold street-side….
Other colors of a culture…
This last treat was a mosaic from some subway art…. I like how this creativity just follows me home!
So, it was a fun little trip, but no mojo. I welcome suggestions as to where I could find it…
