Well, call me unromantic, Sir Shakespeare, but I found Juliet’s tomb kinda creepy and busted. I mean, I think there was far more of a romantic setting in whatever trench Saddam Hussein was hiding in.
However, the rest of Verona was really pretty. My only disapoinment was spending some serious Euros at Romeo’s restaurant. The food [...]

Romeo, Oh Romeo….
Mild-ano
After a little trend shopping for work, I decided to skip ahead to the sights and the art of Milano. The shopgirls really got my goat, as unlike most italian cities and villages, they seriously have twigs up their bums. Trading Via della Spiga for the Duomo and the Castello Szoresco, I found that the true trends for color, fabric, and construction were created by designers called Caravaggio, not Cavalli…
Flowers of Varenna
I really loved the botany in the gardens of Hotel Villa Cipressi and while walking around Varenna before I departed on the ferry. So many of these look like the underside of petticoats and inspired me to think of different dyeing techniques for fabric.
Fab Look of the Day…
…seen in Varenna, (aka la citta di Signor Clooney). I’m serious here, folks- i have a serious thing for how the elder Italian folk dress here. Its instantaneously Mary-Kate Olsen-meets- Marc Jacobs Spring 2009.
Gidget ain’t got nuttin’ on these chicks….
In case you were wondering what these lovely ladies in blue were up to when I took this shot, they were swearing in Italian under their breath as they watched a german tourist park their Smart car. Great way to kick off a trip to Mennaggio and Varenna.
Trend Watch
White jeans are big in Italy….a couple of years ago, red pants for men seemed to be a trend, but it seems that these before-Labor-Day counterparts are fast replacing them. See them pictured here at Como’s discoteca “BED”.
Bellagio and Formaggio….
So, as it turns out, being in Italy doesn’t suck. I arrived last night from wine-tasting in Piedmont and descended upon a brisk evening in Tremezzo on Lake Como.
My favorite Italian word….
is “ALLORA”. It just goes with everything and a can be used with anything. I’ve been using it in excess in Italy, and somebody needs to slap me before I put it on a tee-shirt. Besides my very obvious obbession, I thought I’d share some pics of my trip whilst traisping thru Piedmonte.
Porto-bello like a Portly-fellow
It might be a bit of a vanity thing, but I was determined to arrive for my layover-cum-day-trip-to London looking like one of those celebrities that has just disembarked her private jet in LAX. To no avail. As you can see, I have my French bohemian look going on (would you like a baguette with that beret?)
Ciao, regazzi!
I can already almost smell the basil, torn from the garden in back of the restaurant…hear the chimes of the church bells from the piazza…..see the misty fog that descends upon the icy waters of Lake Como. That’s right, dear reader, my tush is about to take off to the place of pasta, the mecca [...]
