Mama, I’ve found Mecca…

..and its called Anthropologie. I’m sure you’ve heard of the place once or twice. But moreover than the fabulous clothing and misc. wares, I have always loved their visual display. It’s bar-none to anything I’ve ever seen, and runs at a close tie for me with Bergdorf Goodman’s. The last time, I snuck some pics with my camera of the inventive inspirational displays at their Rockefeller Center location…..

I love the antiqued white finish of the wardrobe and the faux eggs seeming to tumble from the top….

This structure was built from shipping crates/palettes (?) for the roof and then some sort of weathered metal structure that formed beautifully arched gates. The crates have all their original markings, plus some painted add-ons and random silver-and-gold studding. I believe this piece is actually for sale.

If I had some absurd amount of space, its would contain this beautiful dish tree and glass display case/dollhouse. Of course, I’d have to own dolls that wouldn’t throw stones (hee, hee)…

This “chandelier” is made from 3-4 colors of ribbon draped across the room, strung from the ceiling along with a bulb on a cord, and a few happenstance crystals tied near the end…..

This artwork is so precious and really a great repurposing of what you might have around….a vintage hanky over an old photograph….a fashion sketch positioned upright and shoe last within an old-fashioned display jar…

Dip-dyed strips of cotton poplin strung together to form a curtain….

Interesting Ideas for wall hangings…. the latter being needlepoint on newsprint (makes me so happy)….

And a few mod-goth-boudoir pics of the new Christian Lacroix store on 57th street for good measure. I really love the look of all the mirrored surfaces and black lacquered furniture…

You know I printed this out and rolled around in it like a dog. As you know I visit Anthropologie everyday. By everday I mean FREAKING EVERYDAY. Why? Because that is the only way to get stuff on sale…new stuff I mean. They put their sale stuff out randomly and that sh*t needs to be checked on like browning pinenuts. (Milda I know you will appreciate..pinenuts burn if you blink, I swear). Also, where else can you find muffin papers and coffee filters being used in window installation and have it not look like an artschool freshman did it in foundations class? It’s just very innovative installation. YAY.
