Out to Lunch…..

….for like days and days! Sorry, fan, (singular as I think its only my Mom who reads this) but I have been busy cosmetically reimaging my apartment and workspace. So far, it has involved a very involved 6-hour trip to IKEA with my strong friend, Andy, as well as some serious drilling, staining, assembling, etc. So far, this is the hot tranny mess I have to work with:

So far, have been leafing thru my tears of Domino magazine, and consulting their smart blog, the Daily Dose, trying to imagine what I could make of my 500 sq foot post-war “box” studio and still have room to sleep in it!

So far, I have chosen the GORM shelving system from IKEA to function as a room divider and to house all my personal effects in the boudoir area. It’s raw pine, and have totally been in staining hell, but I found this genius stain by LIBERON that has no stinky odor and seems to be safe around my cats. It’s only available at Gracious Home, and costs like $20 for a small can of Dark Oak, but the sales-person-genius who has been taking my calls, Christine, has been really helpful with all my questions. She even recommended using a PolyAcrylic as a seal for its low-odor (as opposed to polyurethane) which is also a bonus in my tiny barely-ventilated space. Much after the fact of using over 9 cans of the stuff to double coat everything, I realized I could have achieved the same effect with much less labor and coin if I had only gone with its slightly darker cousin, Tudor Oak. Let my mistake be your lesson. Oh, and here’s a tip if you use the above products on your raw wood project- SPONGE paintbrush for the stain, and OIL BRUSH for the Poly acrylic- or else it removes part of the stain color!

Will keep you posted on my progress……!
